''Geez Wally'': Mother's Day Survey Reveals June Cleaver Most Resembles Wine Lovers' Mothers; Survey Also Revealed Most Wine Lov

VENTURA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 2, 2006--A recent Mother's Day survey revealed that most wine lovers believe their mother most resembles television's June Cleaver, according to The California Wine Club. www.cawineclub.com.

America's fascination with celebrities and Hollywood prompted The California Wine Club to conduct a special Mother's Day online survey to find out which TV or celebrity mom most resembles their members' own real-life mother. June Cleaver, the famous cookie baking-mother from the popular 1950's show "Leave it to Beaver" portrayed by actress Barbara Billingsley, topped the list with over 23 percent of the votes cast by hundreds of respondents.

Consistent with the maternal qualities of June Cleaver, the survey also found that most wine lovers attribute the characteristics in a Meritage blended wine with their own mother's personality. "Meritage wines are a blend of the very best Bordeaux varietals, similar to how June Cleaver exemplified the very best blend of maternal qualities, such as nurturing and love," says Bruce Boring, co-founder of The California Wine Club. "I can't think of a better gift for your June Cleaver-esque mom this Mother's Day than a bottle of wine that holds similar characteristics to your own mom," he added.

Cabernet Sauvignon received the second highest number of votes, with respondents describing their mom's as "the king (or queen) of the household."

Clair Huxtable from "The Cosby Show" received the second highest number of votes with 13 percent, while Debra Barone from "Everybody Loves Raymond" came in third place with over 12 percent of the votes from survey participants. Rounding out the top five were Carol Brady from "The Brady Bunch" with 9 percent and George Costanza's mother from the popular 90's sitcom "Seinfeld" with 8 percent.

Surprisingly, a large number of respondents decided to write in their own choice of Joan Crawford from the movie "Mommy Dearest," brilliantly played by actress Faye Dunaway. Unfortunately, for these wine lovers, there are no wine varietals with characteristics similar to their "Mommy."

Television and celebrity moms with the least amount of votes on the survey included Roseanne Conner from "Roseanne," Florida Evans from "Good Times," Sharon Osborne from "The Osbornes," Lynette Scavo from "Desperate Housewives," and Erica Cane from "All My Children."
