HAAK 2003 MADEIRA WINS GOLD MEDAL IN NATIONAL WOMEN'S WINE COMPETITION
Haak among only 25 wineries from around the world invited to prestigious Washington, DC tasting event
SANTA FE, TEXAS, August 25, 2008 (GrapeVineTrail)-- Haak Vineyards & Winery proudly announces its 2003 Madeira Jacquez has won a Gold Medal in the second annual National Women's Wine Competition (NWWC). The Haak Madeira is one of only 76 wines, out of more than 1,600 entries, to receive a Gold Medal.
The Haak 2003 Madeira Jacquez is one of the only Madeiras made in the United States.
Haak Winery is also among just 25 wineries from around the world invited to pour their award-winning wines at a glittering special tasting event on Thursday, October 2 in Washington, DC, at the National Museum of Women in the Arts.
"We are delighted to receive this prestigious recognition for our Madeira Jacquez and to share our wine with the NWWC guests in our nation's capital," says Raymond Haak. "Women make up a huge part of today's wine market and it's a huge honor to know that our Madeira was so well-received by the top female palates in the industry."
The Haak Madeira was also recognized this year with medals from the Finger Lakes International Wine Competition and the San Diego International Wine Competition.
Haak Winery was established in 2000 to produce premium & ultra premium Texas wines. This Mediterranean style winery is a destination winery offering visitors a "Taste of The Old World in Galveston County." Haak wines have been awarded more than 100 medals beginning with its first vintage in 2000. The proprietors, Raymond & Gladys Haak, have been growing wine grapes in Santa Fe, Texas since 1969. The 15,000-square foot winery is located on a 12-acre estate including a 1,800-square-foot cellar and a 5,000-square-foot pavilion where the winery hosts weddings, receptions, wine dinners and concerts.
NWWC, one of the largest wine competitions in the United States, is the only competition with all-women judging panels, reflecting the marketplace reality that women make 60 to 70 percent of all wine-buying decisions. The award-winning wines are listed in the Wines Women Love! Shopping List at www.nwwc.info.
