Southbrook Winery Partners The Briars Resort with Award Winning Wine

Jackson’s Point, ON – June 2009 (GrapeVineTrail.com) – This time The Briars Resort & Spa didn’t just go “organic” with their latest addition to the dining room, they went “biodynamic”. This is a form of winemaking that goes one step further than certified organic farming practices that are painstaking in their own right.

The Briars Resort & Spa is just one of a handful of Canadian establishments chosen to receive a limited number of cases of Southbrook Vineyards’ 2008 Cabernet Rosé, certified biodynamic by the international body Demeter. It is not available at the LCBO.

Before biodynamic certification, first a vineyard must be certified organic, and this puts Southbrook in the company of a select few top-end wineries from around the world.

The Cabernet Rosé is a natural addition to The Briars, where dedication to the fine art of innkeeping has been a time-honoured tradition for over a century, and where leadership in environmentally-friendly practices has been frequently recognized by environmental groups in recent years.

Southbrook Vineyards’ 2008 Cabernet Rosé will be available in Briars Dining Room and Drinkwaters Lounge for a limited time only. It’s always worth visiting The Briars for fine dining and entertainment in the summer, and now you can enjoy Sunday Brunches throughout July and August. Sheila Maxwell, Director of Food and beverage at the Briars is excited about the upcoming summer season. The main dining room has recently undergone wonderful renovations and the weather for July and August looks sunny, warm and hot.

Biodynamic winemaking is a holistic farming approach that recognizes the vineyard as a self-sustaining ecosystem. It goes beyond the standards for organic farming by recognizing the interrelationship between the soil, plants and animals, and the energy forces affecting the farm, such as lunar and planetary cycles.
